I’m Debbie Josendale, the Founder and Chief Marketing SweetSpot™ Finder for Captivate & Co.

Welcome to the Captivate & Co. website.  I’m glad you stopped by for a visit.  Since you’re on the About page, let me introduce myself.

The Quick Bio

I’m a Corporate Expat…turned Entrepreneur.  For more than 20 years I held leadership roles with small and large companies that delivered Information Technology consulting services. That experience opened the door to my love of marketing and selling services, and the subsequent launch of my entrepreneurial career.

Through a series of twists and turns, I launched Captivate & Co., a marketing communication firm.  And I specialize in…yes…you guessed it…marketing services.

Today it is a privilege to work with clients and help them Stand-Out, find their magnetic marketing message, and grow their business using the Marketing SweetSpot™ Method.

The Long Bio

The journey to starting Captivate & Co. began long before I could spell entrepreneur.

Stories, creativity, books, and chocolate chip cookies have always been a part of my life.

As a young child, I was captivated by my maternal grandfather’s stories. A masterful sales-engineer, he always had a story to tell ranging from fantasy to real life to silly, which I later dubbed as Christiansen Corn.

Perhaps that’s what ignited my love of books. I was (and still am) a book geek. My idea of summer fun was heading to the library and coming home with a huge stack of books. It made me giddy with joy. My goal was to read more books than the previous summer.

It was my paternal Rosie-the-Riveter grandmother who inspired creativity. A “genius” seamstress, she made head-turning…captivating…clothing. A beautiful aquamarine dress handcrafted for me when I was nine, is today one of my most cherished possessions.

marketing coaching and consulting servicesA career as an Interior Designer was my plan. The medium of the day to turn your design vision into reality was watercolor. Watercolor was not my BFF as my designs all become big puddles of murky color. I shifted into Business School at the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in Marketing.

Learning to Market and Sell Services

I spent 20 years leading IT Consulting organizations for Spencer & Spencer Systems, Fischer International, and CIBER, Inc. My love of books, storytelling, and creativity helped to propel my career.

But it was one book that taught me how to market and sell services. The title was “Selling the Invisible” written by Harry Beckwith. It became my marketing bible. It was the first marketing book that took note of the significant difference between selling products and selling services.

I read and re-read the book (yes that is my dog-eared copy.) This book ignited my passion for learning everything I could about how to market and sell services. It also helped me to lead my business units to exceed our sales and revenue goals consistently.

Chocolate Chip Cookies are My Super Food

One common thread through every part of my life has been my love of Chocolate Chip cookies.  My Mom makes the best, and I think she used them instead of a pacifier.

And yes that’s me.  If you look close, you can see that I have a Chocolate Chip cookie in my left hand.

So armed with a chocolate chip cookie, experience, ongoing education, and a passion for helping service-based business owners market and sell the invisible, I founded Captivate & Co.
